Tell us a little about the upcoming New Years Eve special.
CBS approached me about 6 months ago with regards to some ideas they had for expanding their dance music coverage on Energy 103.7 in San Diego and Amp in Los Angeles. At the time I’d just finished my contract with Jammin’ Z90 where I’d completed 2 fantastic years. Chris Patyk the PD at Energy raised the idea of an NYE take-over, 6 hours of new dance music, naturally I jumped at the chance to host such a show! As an introductory show to the new “Saturday Night Energy” – you’re in for quite a treat on NYE as we look back and throw forward to the future of dance music. Also, I must mention that it’s entirely commercial free, so you can enjoy totally uninterrupted Energy action.
What is going to be new about the program on Energy 103.7?
In simple terms, everything… My old show on Z90 was right for the time and national stature of dance music progression, the brand behind it fitted that period and I’m very keen to take “Saturday Night Energy” in a new and exciting direction. I’m very excited and pleased to embrace the changes in dance music culture in the USA, segregation of sub-genres has made for a high bar of production quality and one certainly can’t get away with using that filthy term “EDM”.
3 most exciting things to expect from the new radio show this year?
- Global Soundstage – this is set to be a very exciting new feature as we bring live feeds on-air from some of the worlds biggest dance music festivals such as Luminosity, Energy, Sensation and of course EDC.
- We’ll be inviting the listeners onto the show to discuss what they want for dance music in San Diego. Interaction with listeners is one of the key priorities for the new show, especially as it’s live!
- 2015 is set to be a ground breaking year for credible dance music in America, we’ll be inviting some of the biggest emerging and established acts onto the show
What are some of the artists/producers we should expect to be hearing on the new radio show?
Progression is everything and 3 hours every Saturday is sure time enough to pack in plenty of fresh grooves. Artists like Oliver Heldens, Firebeatz, Juventa, EDU and KHOMA to name but a few… Hopefully that’ll give you an idea of the ascending vibe.
Will there be any guest hosts on this show, maybe an Eventvibe takeover!?
Absolutely, we’re looking to do some very specials “co-hosts” and guest take-overs in conjunction with special events. We’re very conscious of the bustling talent we have here in San Diego and I’m very keen to feature/support as much on the show as possible.
Call the future, who will be the breakthrough electronic music artists of 2015 that we may not know about yet?
There’s so many hot new acts emerging out of the darkness, one of my personal favorites is a Brazilian producer called Wrechenski – his jump up, sample crazy take on progressive trance is really cool and very “out of the box”. He’s signed to Enhanced recordings, check him out if you get a moment. Also Jacob Plant is somebody I worked with a couple of years ago in Ibiza, he’s now been signed to CR2 and is boshing out great new material like there’s no tomorrow.
What are the links and tags that we should familiarize ourself to stay connected with Saturday Night Energy?
