With EDC right around the corner it’s time for all of us to start figuring out one of the most crucial parts of your weekend, your outfit! This year, official Insomniac judges will be roaming the crowd presenting the best-costumed festivalgoers with merchandise vouchers, free passes to Insomniac Enhanced Concert Series, and passes to Insomniac’s other festival experiences. One Grand Prize for the best costume will be handed out each night of the festival promising one lucky fan (and friends) a world-class festival experience. Details on the Grand Prize haven’t been announced yet but there’s been talk of getting your own artist trailer or possibly even a helicopter ride! More info on the contest can be found here. Find some of EDC outfit ideas here and let your creative mind flow!
YOU are the headliner this year. How will you stand out from the crowd?
Last year, inside the speedway, it was over 90 degrees at night
This year it’s going to be just as hot. Even though the event is held beneath the night skies it’s still extremely warm. Here’s the predicted forecast for the weekend.
The high desert climate of Las Vegas can vary dramatically from daytime to nighttime, including high winds, dry weather, and quick onset of rain or storms. I suggest that whatever you do wear be comfortable, light weight and a material that breathes easily. Between the weather and amount of dancing you’ll be doing there’s no way you’ll be cold. If you’ve never been or just have no idea what you want to wear, I’ve narrowed down the options into a few easy categories with some ideas for you guys!
Keep it simple
This is pretty easy. If you’re a guy, you probably don’t really care what you’re wearing to EDC as long as you’re not hot and still look cool. I’d stick with sunglasses, a t-shirt/tank top, shorts, and some shoes you don’t care about. If you wanna get crazy, here’s some EDC outfit ideas:
If you haven’t heard already Pasquale Rotella (CEO of Insomniac aka the reason we have EDC!) has been under a lot of heat lately. Rotella and five others have been indicted on 29 counts including bribery, embezzlement, and conspiracy. His attorney calls the charges “clearly politically motivated and publicity driven” because of the media surrounding a 15 year old’s death (that had nothing to do with Pasquale) during EDC in LA two years ago. If found guilty, he faces up to 13 years in prison, thus endangering the multiple Insomniac events we look forward to during each year. Order your #FreePasquale shirt HERE by June 3rd to receive it before EDC 2012! (These are available in girl’s sizes too, of course!)
Complete your outfit with some light up shoelaces, gloves, or sunglasses!
Show your creative side!
There’s a few themes you can follow with the main portions of your outfits. Raver, casual, daring, or covered. The typical idea of a rave is the less clothes the better (especially because it’s so hot outside) but I understand not everyone enjoys being half naked in front of 299,999 other people, so here are a few EDC outfit ideas both scandalous and conservative to help you decide.
If you want to be a little more covered up I suggest a cute tank or crop top! It’s summer and neon colors are in right now so they’re available almost everywhere you look. Find something bright and pair it with some cute shorts and you’re good to go! These are all from Wet Seal:
Show some skin!
For those of you would want to go all out in Vegas there’s many stores who carry things that are perfect to wear all over this city, you just need to know where to look! Some of my favorites are Aphrodite’s Closet, Mileage, and Pink Zone. If you don’t feel like spending hours running around to different stores, websites like Yandy.com, RaveReady.com, and iheartraves.com have cute and unique stuff you can grab before EDC if you get fast shipping.
There’s hundred of talented people out there that make amazing outfits for you to buy off their Facebook or Etsy sites. If you’re creatively-handicapped but still want something that’s different from everyone else you’re not out of luck! Some of this stuff is so beautifully made I can’t believe it’s done by hand. Check out Framptastic, she does custom orders and her stuff is extremely affordable and so cute!
I wouldn’t recommend wearing any kind of pants. It’s going to stay pretty warm all night and on top of that you’re going to be running around 7 stages. Have some fun with it!
If this is your first EDC/rave, I think this is your best option. Hopping around in one of these all night is definitely something you need to do at least once in your life! Check out these ones:
Bathing suit bottoms/Spandex shorts
This is probably the most comfortable. You feel covered enough to dance around and not have to worry about any wardrobe malfunctions. I usually just buy my shorts from Pink Zone or wear a bathing suit I have that matches with my outfit. Also, Victoria’s Secret always has cute boyshorts that have sayings on the butt if you want to make a statement!
Toms. Vans. Converse. Whatever you’re wearing on your feet, make sure it’s comfortable, flat, and something you don’t mind getting stepped all over. I don’t recommend wearing flip flops because your toes will get mauled and parts of the speedway are rocks and dirt. Oh, and obviously don’t wear heels! I make fun of those girls every year.
Tights/Knee-high socks/Fluffies/Leg Wraps
These add to any outfit and are all fun to wear! If you don’t like you’re bare legs being completely out while you’re wearing shorts/a tutu they help cover you up a bit without making you too hot. Mileage in PB has a good variety of this stuff:
Sunglasses are an absolutely must-have for the weekend. This is the time to bring out the most ridiculous, obnoxious pair of shades you own and make EDC your playground. Whether they’re huge and plastic, cat eye, heart shaped, or “snooki” glasses, anything goes. They’ll protect your eyes from the bright UV rays, bright lights from the stages, and hide the fact that the makeup you spent 4 hours doing earlier that day is melting from endless hours of dancing and sweating in the Vegas heat.
These homemade bracelets will be everywhere at the event. People exchange them and usually the ones you end up with at the end of the night say pretty hilarious things on them. They’re definitely a staple at EDC and some of them are really artistic!
It’s nice to have something secure to keep your stuff in besides your bra and/or pockets. Plush animal backpacks used to be a big thing at EDC but the are no longer allowed. Make sure your backpack or fanny pack is under 12 x 12 too or else security will make you take it back to your car/throw it out.
